From the beaches along Cape Cod Bay to the Bass River flowing southward, Dennis, Massachusetts is a beautiful place to call home. This picturesque town is home to over 14,000 residents who take pride in their colonial heritage and seaside resort atmosphere. Its ability to maintain the New England charm with modern amenities makes it both a fun place to visit and a great location to call home. Residents of Dennis are truly in the heart of Cape Cod and, since 2013, Pride has been proud to work with the residents of this town to ensure they have the beautiful property they deserve.
First settled in the 1630’s by a man name John Crowe and Thomas Howes, Dennis originally started out as being part of the town of Yarmouth. It would be over 150 years later that the portion today known as Dennis split from Yarmouth and become an incorporated community of its own. Josiah Dennis, the resident minister in the area, was who the town was named after. Many folks looking for land to farm had to look elsewhere, there just simply was not enough here to satisfy their need. Therefore, Dennis became known for the Shiverick Shipyard built in 1800’s and famous worldwide for their clipper ships, square-rigged brig and schooners. Originally a seafaring town, today Dennis is known as a resort town filled with activities for the whole family and plenty of water ready to navigate.
There are four sections to Dennis:
● East Dennis
● West Dennis
● South Dennis
● Dennis Port
These four sections make up the 22 square miles of Dennis, Massachusetts. There is a lot to explore within this town. The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs through Dennis as well as nearby Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet. The twenty-two miles of trails runs for twenty-two miles of which a former railroad line had ran. It gives hikers and bikers a beautiful path with plenty of areas to hop off and check out the marvelous views of the water.
There are also two museums located in Dennis: the Wampanoag Indian Museum which showcases the culture and history of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the Cape Cod Children’s Museum designed to help the little ones in the family learn and discover. Then there is spending time at the beach where one can lay out in the sun with a good book, head into the refreshingly cool waters for a swim, boat or sail across the choppy bay or even whale watch. Golfers can hit the links at one of two courses.
As you can see, there is a lot to see and do in Dennis.
